FRANCESCA ASHLEY COOPER, M.Clin Psy (Australia)

Clinical Psychologist

"Seeking help for psychological difficulties takes courage and strength. I feel privileged to work with the clients I meet and I am humbled by the stories and past experiences they share with me. I am passionate about mental health and empowering individuals to achieve optimal wellbeing."

Born and raised in the UK, I moved to Australia to complete my undergraduate and postgraduate training. After completing my studies I stayed in Australia and worked in a variety of settings including private practice, community based organisations and schools. During this time, I worked as a clinical psychologist working with children, adolescents and adults from all walks of life using treatment modalities including cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), mindfulness, and dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT).

More recently I relocated to the British Virgin Islands in the Caribbean and worked in a private health clinicsupporting islanders and expats particularly following the devasting impacts of hurricane Irma in 2017.As a result of working in different countries and cultures and with clients from all backgrounds, I havebecome skilled at adapting my therapeutic approach to each individuals needs and objectives. I aim to beflexible and pragmatic in my counselling style and fully believe that humour and laughter can at times play an important role in the therapeutic process.

In my clinical work I aim to create a relaxed, warm and friendly environment where clients can share their psychological concerns without fear of judgment. I am enthusiastic and dedicated in delivering collaborative, evidence-based care and committed to working with clients to reduce distress and make positive lifestyle changes. I fully believe that even the most difficult issues can be addressed and overcome through the therapeutic process.

When I am not being a clinical psychologist I enjoy travelling, scuba diving, sailing and relaxing on the beach. I also love reading, cooking, playing in the orchestra and crocheting.
