Overview

A psychological assessment is typically requested by adults to measure their intellectual, emotional, learning, and behavioural functioning. Whether you are a student or a working professional, this assessment can give you a valuable insight into your self and your mind.

Who needs it ?

Adults typically will refer themselves, or will be referred from their college or workplace, for assessment for the following issues:

  • Cognitive abilities
  • Giftedness
  • Learning difficulties
  • Memory
  • Personality disorders

Process

A psychological assessment is typically carried out over a few weeks.

  • You will be asked to complete an email form about yourself or your child, which must be brought to the diagnostic intake appointment.
  • The diagnostic intake is a one-hour session that takes place at The LightHouse clinic to review your background and concerns.
  • An appointment will then be scheduled for the assessment.
  • The assessment is usually conducted in our clinic over a course of two to three days (a total of five to six hours), and includes cognitive, achievement and behavioural measures to assess IQ, learning ability, behaviour and any disorders.
  • Once all the data is collected, our psychologist will consult with another psychologist on our team to get a thorough picture of the assessment scores and results.
  • The information will be synthesized and compiled in a comprehensive psychoeducational report, which we will discuss with you face-to-face in a feedback session lasting 30 minutes to one hour.
