The journey to adopting a child can take you on rollercoaster of emotions, and The LightHouse offers a range of support services for adoptive parents. You’re never alone ¬– and we can help you with every stage of the adoption process.
The road to adoption can have many twists and turns, and we offer expert parent training and family-driven therapy to support you in all stages of this emotional process.
We invite you to share your feelings, fears and frustrations at individual sessions with our compassionate therapists – whether you are deciding to adopt, preparing for the arrival of an adopted child, or helping a child to settle into your home.
A home study is required by law for all international adoptions. This written report is an in-depth study of your family environment, lifestyle, personal circumstances, employment, finances and physical health.
We conduct home studies for families seeking independent adoption; this process involves interviews and a home visit. We understand how intrusive this experience can feel to you and your family, and you can rely on our therapists to remain sensitive and respectful every step of the way.
A psychological evaluation is one of the many hoops you need to jump through on your path to parenthood – and we are here to make this part of the process as easy and pain-free as possible.
One of our doctoral-level clinical psychologists will conduct a 90-minute clinical interview, when you will be asked about your psychological health, your marriage, your decision to adopt and your personal history. We can adapt the process to meet the requirements of different agencies and countries, and we will provide you with a report and feedback at the end.
Our specialists are ready to help you
